What is a bomb pot in poker?
A bomb pot is a fan-favorite poker format where the usual preflop betting is skipped entirely. Instead, every player antes a fixed amount before the hand, and the dealer goes straight to the flop. Everyone sees the flop, so the pot is already big and the action starts immediately.
How a bomb pot works
- Everyone at the table posts the same ante before cards are dealt.
- Players are dealt their hole cards — usually four cards (Omaha/PLO style).
- No preflop betting. The dealer immediately spreads the flop.
- Betting begins on the flop and continues on the turn and river as normal.
Double-board bomb pots
A popular twist deals two boards. The pot is split between the best hand on Board 1 and the best hand on Board 2 — double the sweat, double the drama. In PLO you still use exactly two of your hole cards plus three from each board.
Why players love them
Bomb pots are pure action: big pots, everyone involved, and no slow preflop folding. They're a home-game staple for mixing up a session — which is exactly why this site is called BombPot.
